A guest column from Stahlblau is available at Covidian Aesthetics, a friendly substack we can never recommend enough, by Mónica Belevan and Alonso Toledo.
Incisive as always. The opening roast of the Australian-Anglo ethos made me chuckle and the comparison of historical to contemporary immigration paths and their consequences is illuminating
I’m curious how you position the present as a period of Spenglerian culture and not civilization. I’ve mostly heard that we are already in the civilization period, and western culture seems to have run out of energy. Would love to hear more of your thoughts on this.
I would say it's at the intersection! I consider these times as the possible end of a civilization period, starting to overlap with a budding culture. I think this budding culture might be a spiritual heir to gnostic heresies of Christianity (very old indeed!) but I have to think about it more thoroughly before I write on it
Thank you so much! Love to host you.
